We are a UK freight forwarder handling find a freight forwarder as a complete file. That means collection anywhere in the United Kingdom, packing or consolidation at our depot, the export declaration lodged by our own brokers, the ocean or air leg booked with a named carrier, and clearance and delivery arranged through our agent at the far end. One reference, one contact, and a written price that holds.
Most enquiries about find a freight forwarder come down to three decisions: full container or shared groupage, sea or air, and port to port or full door to door. Get those three right and the cost lands in a predictable band. Get them wrong and the surprises arrive at the quayside or the airline warehouse, which is the most expensive place to fix anything.

Planning figures for UK-origin movements. Weight, cubic measurement, commodity, destination and service level all change the price materially, and duty, tax and clearance at the far end are payable locally. Send us the dimensions, weights and destination and we will convert these bands into a fixed written quote, usually the same working day.
What find a freight forwarder involves
A movement of this kind runs through six stages: enquiry and rating, booking against a named vessel or flight, UK collection or delivery into our depot, export formalities, the line-haul leg, and destination clearance and delivery. Each stage carries its own paperwork and its own hard cut-off. Our job as forwarder is to hold all six together so you deal with one file rather than five suppliers.
We start with the commercial detail: the Incoterm, who is responsible for which leg, the value on the invoice, and who clears the cargo at destination. Get that agreed at the quotation stage and the rest of the file follows cleanly, with no argument later about who pays a charge nobody expected.
How find a freight forwarder is priced
Each mode is priced on a different basis: sea freight per container or per cubic metre, air freight on chargeable weight, and road freight on distance and load factor. A competent forwarder prices the realistic options side by side so you can see the trade-off between cost and transit time rather than being pushed towards one answer.
Alongside the main freight rate sit the origin terminal handling charge, the export declaration, documentation and, at destination, terminal handling, clearance, agency fees, duty and local tax. A quote showing only the freight line is not cheaper, it is incomplete. Ours lists every element so you can compare like for like and budget accurately.
- Container rate for full loads, cubic metre rate for groupage
- Origin terminal handling and documentation
- Export declaration, plus licences or certificates where the commodity requires them
- Marine or all-risks insurance on the declared value
- Destination terminal handling, clearance, duty and local taxes
Choosing the right service
We hold sea, air and road options open until you have seen the numbers. A shipment that looks like an obvious sea job can be cheaper by air once storage, demurrage and lost trading time are counted, and a small consignment often ships better in groupage than in a half-empty box.
Where the decision is genuinely close we tell you so, with the transit times, the risk profile and the total landed cost side by side. That is what a forwarder is for, and it is more useful than a single rate with no context.

Equipment, packing and consolidation
Cargo that is packed properly travels cheaply, because it stows tightly, survives handling and clears inspection without a query. We advise on the equipment before booking rather than discovering the problem when the load arrives at the depot.
- 20ft, 40ft and 40ft high cube containers for standard palletised or boxed cargo
- Flat racks and open tops for machinery, plant and out-of-gauge units
- Reefer equipment for temperature-controlled and perishable loads
- Weekly LCL consolidations for part loads and single pallets
- Export-grade crating, ISPM 15 heat-treated timber and shrink wrapping at our depot
- Load photographs and a sealed container record before departure
Documents, customs and compliance
Every export needs a commercial invoice, a packing list, the correct commodity code and an export declaration. Depending on the commodity and destination you may also need a certificate of origin, an EUR1 or preference statement, a dangerous goods declaration, a phytosanitary or health certificate, a pre-shipment inspection or an import permit issued before the vessel sails. Missing any of these stops the cargo, not the paperwork.
We run our own customs brokerage, so entries are lodged and queried by the person who filed them rather than passed between offices. We hold duty deferment facilities, handle inward and outward processing where it applies, and check the documentation against the cargo before gate-in rather than after.
Transit times and what affects them
As a planning guide: European road freight one to four days, short-sea sailings three to ten days, deep-sea FCL two to six weeks, LCL groupage three to seven weeks including consolidation and deconsolidation, and air freight two to six days. Add three to seven days at each end for collection, gate-in, clearance and delivery.
Port congestion, blank sailings, weather, customs inspections and public holidays all move those numbers. We book against a named vessel or flight, monitor the schedule and tell you when it slips instead of leaving you to find out from a tracking page.
What our find a freight forwarder service covers
Everything below is included in the written quote. Nothing is left to be arranged later or billed after the cargo has moved.
Rating & advice
Cargo measured and classified, options priced side by side, written all-in rate that holds.
UK collection
Groupage, part load or dedicated vehicle from any UK address, with tail-lift or side loader where needed.
Packing & consolidation
Export crating, palletising, load photographs and container sealing at our depot.
Export customs
Declaration lodged by our own brokers, certificates and licences arranged where the route requires them.
Insurance
All-risks marine or transit cover on the declared value for the full door-to-door movement.
Destination clearance
Import entry, duty calculation, terminal formalities and onward delivery through our local agent.
Insurance, liability and claims
Carrier liability is limited by weight and is not insurance. Under the standard conventions a total loss can settle at a fraction of the cargo's value, which is why we arrange all-risks marine or air transit cover on the declared value for the full journey, road legs included. Cover typically costs 1.5% to 2.2% of declared value.
Condition and count are recorded at collection, again at loading and once more at delivery. That record is the difference between a claim settled in weeks and a claim that becomes an argument, and it costs nothing but a few minutes at each hand-off.
Why importers and exporters use us for find a freight forwarder
We are a UK freight forwarder with our own customs brokerage, a national collection network, contracted allocations with the shipping lines and airlines we use, and long-standing agents at the destinations we serve. That combination is what lets us quote the whole movement, hold the price and keep one named person accountable from booking to release.
No call-centre handovers, no resale of your enquiry to a lead network, and no headline rate that grows once the cargo is in the system. If a shipment does not make commercial sense the way you have described it, we tell you and suggest the version that does.

Frequently asked questions
Questions about find a freight forwarder
- How much does find a freight forwarder cost?
- The bands in the rate table above cover most UK-origin movements. The final figure depends on the volume or container size, the commodity and the destination, whether you need collection and delivery at both ends, and the level of insurance you choose. Send the weights, dimensions and destination and you will have a fixed written quote, usually the same working day.
- How long will it take?
- Allow one to four days for European road freight, three to ten days short-sea, two to six weeks deep-sea FCL and three to seven weeks for LCL groupage, plus three to seven days at each end for collection, gate-in, clearance and delivery.
- What documents do you need from me?
- A commercial invoice, a packing list, the commodity code or a clear description we can classify, your EORI number, and the consignee's full details. Some commodities and destinations add a certificate of origin, a dangerous goods declaration, a health or phytosanitary certificate, an import permit or a pre-shipment inspection. We tell you exactly which at the point of booking.
- Is air freight worth the extra cost?
- It is when the cargo is high value, perishable, urgent or holding up production. Air freight costs several times the sea equivalent per kilo but removes weeks of transit, storage and working capital, and for low-weight, high-value goods the total landed cost is often close.
- Do you handle the customs clearance as well?
- Yes. We hold our own customs brokerage and duty deferment facilities, so export and import entries are lodged in house, classification is done by our team, and any query is answered by the person who filed the entry. Duty and VAT are calculated and confirmed to you before arrival, not after.
- Do you collect from my address?
- Yes. We collect from any UK address, factory, warehouse or private property, and at the far end our agent arranges inland delivery to the final address instead of leaving you to collect from a terminal.
